I noted on page 11 of WERRA Winter newsletter that Surrey County Council are planning to install Yellow lines on Nightingale Drive. I am totally opposed to this as it will impact on the surrounding roads and in particular run the risk of cars parking opposite my driveway making it difficult to negotiate.

On average 10 vehicles I believe belong to Coach Drivers park during the working week on this stretch of the road and an amount of customers visiting premises on Ruxley Lane including the dentist.

These Coach Drivers play an important part of our community as many of the coaches are used for school runs etc. My question is why this road should have parking restrictions when the majority of residents in both Larch Crescent and Poplar Drive are polite enough to give way accordingly.

I believe that all local residents should have been able to have their comments heard and more importantly should have been informed of the proposed work.

In response to a series of ongoing complaints about parking in Nightingale Drive and nearby closes, Jan Mason requested that Surrey County Council write to all residents in Autumn 2008 to gauge support for Yellow line parking controls.

The Residents Association Summer 2008 Newsletter also featured an article alerting residents to this proposed scheme.

A mere handful of responses were forth coming.

Undeterred, Jan Mason met with residents who had responded, representatives from the highways agency, and representatives from the Coach company and together they discussed how extensive the yellow lining needed to be in order to achieve a solution that worked for all. The final length agreed upon by all will remove 3 -4 car lengths of parking space from Nightingale drive.

It is this negotiated solution that will be going ahead in the near future.
